Press release: Fishing cat recorded for the first time in Pursat, Tonle Sap,​ evidence that wetland reforestation is working

On 2 February 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ministry of Environment, and Conservation International issued a press release on the recording of a fishing cat for the first time in Pursat, Tonle Sap,​ evidence that wetland reforestation is working.

A fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus), one of Asia’s most elusive small wild cats, has been confirmed for the first time in the restored flooded forest of Pursat, around Tonle Sap Lake, after an individual was photographed 46 times by camera traps in mid-2025.
